Know Before You Go

Washing and Rinsing

Use the tub restraint during bath time to avoid injury to you as well as your pet. With these, your dog will be safely and securely restrained and you will be able to give your dog a quick and hassle-free bath.

Let your dog get used to the sound of the running water, and then wet him down, starting from the rear.

Our water temperature is set at the optimum degree for your dog’s comfort. Many people tend to bathe dogs with water that is too hot. This can be not only uncomfortable for the dog, but also dangerous. Dogs can easily overheat if the bath water is too warm, especially with large breeds and dogs that are overweight who have a difficult time cooling down. Water that is too warm will cause your pet’s blood vessels to dilate, and can make some skin conditions worse.

Water that feels warm to humans is over 100 degrees, much too warm for the dog’s bath. Water that is between 70 and 80 degree (feels room temperature) is perfect.

You need only a small amount of shampoo; these are mild cleansers, specifically designed for dogs, without harsh chemicals, perfumes or parasite control agents.

Leave the lather on for the recommended time if you are using a flea or specialty shampoo. Also, If you’re using medicated shampoo, leave it on your dog for at least five to ten minutes for it to be most effective. If you notice that the skin is getting dry or coat dull, try using an oatmeal shampoo.

Lots of lather does not means the hair is getting cleaner; lather is not related to the cleaning ingredients in shampoo. The ingredients in shampoo-type products that create lather are added for emotional appeal rather than any scientific reason. The lathering ingredients are directly affected by the amount of dirt, debris and oil in the coat. Things like oil deactivate the lathering process.

Shampoo residue can cause skin irritations so make sure you give your dog's coat a thorough rinsing. If shampoo is not properly rinsed out of the coat, it can cause skin irritation which can cause the dog to itch and create flaky skin.

If you are worried about water getting in your dog's ears, you can put cotton in them.

Note: Trembling is not uncommon during a bath and is not a cause for concern.
